Meet the leadership team leading PULSE’s mission to awaken culture to the reality of Jesus.
Nick Hall (Founder & Chief Communicator)
As a voice to the next generation, Nick has shared the Gospel at hundreds of events to nearly four million students and is regularly featured as a speaker for pastors gatherings, student conferences, training events, and festivals around the world. A graduate of North Dakota State University, he has a passion for student-led prayer movements, leadership training, evangelism, and discipleship, and has received hands-on training from some of the most influential Christian leaders of our day. Nick is the President and CEO of the Mission America Coalition, sits on the board of the National Association of Evangelicals, and is part of the student advisory team for the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association (BGEA). Nick is married to his best friend, Tiffany; they live in Minneapolis, MN. They have a son, Truett, and daughter, Ruby.
Justin Tennison (President)
As a graduate from North Dakota State University—where PULSE’s story began—Justin has had a front row seat witnessing PULSE grow from a three-person organization to a leading evangelistic movement with a global reach. He joined the PULSE Board of Directors in 2008, later becoming Chairman of the Board in 2010 and then joining the staff as President in 2014. Justin has a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering from North Dakota State University and a Master of Business Administration from Purdue University. Prior to working with PULSE, he spent eight years in the medical device industry with Boston Scientific and Endo Health Solutions, where he managed several hundred employees and budgets exceeding $50 million. Justin and his wife, Alyssa, along with their children, Julia, Lauren, Theodore, and Willliam, live in Minnesota, where they greatly enjoy the summers.
Chris McFarland (Executive Vice President)
Before joining the PULSE team in 2010, Chris served as a national Festival Director with the Luis Palau Association for seven years, overseeing operations, fundraising, budget formation, and civic and church relations. With the Luis Palau Association, Chris’s goal was ultimately to set the stage for over half a million people to hear the Gospel. That same calling—to set the stage for evangelism—is integral to his work at PULSE. Chris leads boldly to implement PULSE’s vision of effectively mobilizing and reaching this generation like never before. Chris graduated from the University of South Dakota with a degree in business management and Luther Seminary with a masters in New Testament. Chris currently lives in Minneapolis with his wife, Jami, and their children, Elle and Lincoln.
DeWayne Cook (Director of Development)
DeWayne has been involved in building relationships and raising funds for more than a decade. Over the last 5 years, he has been working with the Reformed Church in America denomination in the area of regional fundraising with focus on capital campaigns, global mission, and leadership giving. As Director of Development, he leads the day-to-day development operations. DeWayne has a B.A. in business administration and an M.A. in management from Davenport University. He and his wife, Leah, lives in Minneapolis with their three children—Charlotte, Lukas, and Josef.
Jenny Whiteman (Director of Event Operations)
Few people can say they’ve been yelled at in Albanian, escorted Chick-fil-A cows to lunch, and hosted events in churches, football fields, and even an aircraft carrier. Jenny Whiteman is one of those people. After spending nine years as an Operations Director for the Luis Palau Association, Jenny brought her expertise to the PULSE team, where she gets to pour her love and leadership in the team serving as the hidden backbone to PULSE.
Karen Berg-Johnson (Director of Leadership Giving)
Karen was called to PULSE in 2012 and currently serves as the Director of Leadership Giving. She served for 20 years at Bethel University in Saint Paul, MN as an Associate Professor of Art and Gallery Director, and is also a recipient of the prestigious Minnesota State Arts Board fellowship. Karen is married to her high school sweetheart, Jay Johnson, and they have two beautiful daughters, Christina and Caroline.
Susan Harris (Director of Communications)
Susan Harris has a master’s degree in journalism and mass communication from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln. She has more than fifteen years of experience in nonprofit communications, marketing and youth work. Susan started her career in Los Angeles as a production manager for commercials before shifting into church and parachurch ministries. Susan is married to her husband Kevin, and they have two children, Tobias and Adelaide.
Jay Anderson (Director of Ministry Expansion)
Jay Anderson grew up living in a different state or country each year until high school. Traveling with his family for his father’s work, Jay “inherited” the family business and travelled with the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association setting up festivals. As the lead for ministry partnerships, Jay uses his God-given talents to network across the country with ministries, events, bands, and speakers for PULSE. Jay lives in Minneapolis, MN with his wife Steph and their children, Caleb, Adalyn, and Asher.
